Went ahead and bit the bullet tonight and upgraded the server to Fedora Core 4. It is still running yum to get the rest of the updates but it wasn't too painful. Took about 2 hours to actually do the upgrade then had to troubleshoot the stuff that didn't start up. Apache was a quick fix just had to change the module from php4 to php5. Mysql I had to reinstall completely since I had done that manually before it didn't upgrade it. Irssi was a simple enough fix as well just a quick install of the rpm. Over all it wasn't too bad but should be set for another year or so on upgrades.
June 2005 Archives
Did a little housework tonight while dawn was gone, swept and mopped the wood room and the livingroom about to get into the dining room and kitchen. Moved my axis camera around the house while I cleaned tonight so people could actually see that I do clean once in a while. I like the idea of having a few more cameras in the house, I am going to start watching eBay to see if I can pick up a few more cheap.
In other web related news I reorganized my gallery a bit to make my vacation pictures a little more logical. Also moved the various galleries I have up there for other people into one spot for easier management.
Just got off the phone with mom as well. My step-sister is coming into town this weekend and we might all go out to Patti's for dinner on Saturday. My brother has decided to get married sooner rather than later and is picking a date in October it seems. He best stay away from the Phreaknic weekend or I am gonna kick him in the crotch.
I don't know how I keep getting involved with such crazy women. I swear one of my past girlfriends just can't leave me alone. Sometimes I think she just misses having me around to have someone to fight with. I will give in no more!
Session Start (icq:SD (loo)): Sun Jun 26 21:27:22 2005
[21:27] SD (loo): I don't mind you still having my picture on your website but I would appreciate it if you would take the pictures of Christmas when you gave me the "hush ring" off the website I think it's kind of inapproperate.
[21:30] SD (loo): Thanks
[21:30] SD (loo): no need to respond
[21:35] SD (loo): look c has talked to me about our horrid feelings toward each other it's really making c and c feel like they have to choose between being friends with me or you i really don't give a shit about us trying to get along because it's never going to happen but c is one of my best friends and sadly it's because of us being together so i hate to see them be this way so if you can agree to anything to try to get along i'm sure we can work something out and try to be civil for the pure fact of our friends
Session Close (SD (loo)): Sun Jun 26 21:38:42 2005
This is mostly a direct quote from my log, just changed the names out a bit.
Look woman! I can't stand to be in a room with you let alone talk to you. I should have put you on ignore a long time ago but I haven't. I do however have you on invisible so you at least can't tell if I am here, but since you love my gallery I am sure you know about my webcam. I guess I am just venting cause I am tired of you trying to stir shit up. One day this will be public and I will take some flak for it. I will deal with that when it comes up. And no I won't take down any pictures of you from my gallery site just because you don't like them.
Well we are still trying to kill this guy. We've been trying for the better part of 2 hours I think. Wiped at least 5 or 6 times for sure. We do seem to be getting closer but between every attempt several people have to leave their computers for 10 - 15 minutes for whatever reason just delaying this more. We are having another roll call to see who is here, my fortitude buff showed 50 min left so we have been waiting at least 10 minutes this time. :P Group 6 reporting for duty! Hold onto your ass and prepare to die!
6 minutes later... dead again. But we learned some stuff. The healers on this guy aren't immune to tauren warstomp. Most of the tanks are tauren so that should give us the edge we need to maybe finish this.
I also just took my own screenshot of this dude gonna try to edit it down in a few minutes and use it instead of the one from allakhazam.
Well nothing really good to put today just sitting here in between deaths playing WoW. We are in Molten Core tonight fighting what seems to be an impossible Majordomo Executus. Four group wipes down and we are currently resurrecting the other members in the raid and coming up with another strategy. Coordinating 40 people takes a bit of work, oh boy! :P
I skipped out on Oddball's birthday party last night in Nashville because after work I felt really run down. So I came home and finally hung those curtains I got a few weeks back.
They look pretty good, Lissa did a good job in helping me pick them out. I think I need to get another shorter one to go over the window now as well, might do that next week when I go down for the 2600 meeting.
Didn't sleep all that bad last night I don't think. Got home from dinner with christina, stevie, patrick and two of the younguns about 11 or 11:30 and passed right out. I woke up around 6 this morning and forced myself to go back to sleep, well tried to at least. Finally gave up around 9 and fed the cats. Not been a very exciting day so far but at least the house is quiet.
Today marks one week since I stopped taking the allegra-d. So far I don't think it has helped any. My lack of sleeping has cause some rather odd side effects and I guess I was halucinating the other day while I was at work. I've been told lack of sleep once it gets bad enough you will start to see things. For me it was a very large black ant that kept walking across the work bench. But everytime I would reach toward it, it would disappear. I am determined to get ahold of my doctor tomorrow and see about something to knock me out. A couple of friends have expressed some concern that I might fall asleep behind the wheel or slip up and get myself hurt somehow so I really need to find out what is wrong.
I actually went and caught this Sunday afternoon but just figured I hadn't posted anything in a couple of days that this would be a good chance to mention it. This movie is drastically different from the other three super cheese batman movies of recent years. The overall fell of the film was a good bit darker than the cartoonish feel to the others. The story wasn't great but it was tolerable and the acting wasn't that bad. Most of the effects were pretty good, a few were a little on the cornball side but it didn't distract from the movie too much. I highly recommend this movie to anyone that likes a good action flick.
The lesson for the weekend is to NEVER say it can't get any worse because as my life goes to prove it can. Not only can it get worse but you can have a private humiliation turned into a public spectacle. There is always a worse!
The drive down on Friday was very uneventful was having fun with the MyFi on the way down. I have a few beefs with it now and was very pleased with it as well. First the beefs. The FM modulator that is built into the MyFi isn't very strong at all. I had many areas where I was fiddling with the station it was broadcasting on to try and clear up static because it was unable to overpower the land based FM stations. As much of an annoyance as that was I can learn to deal with that but adjusting the station to one that isn't used in the areas I drive frequently. I had the question of how it was going to pick up the ter audio sources when the car kit doesn't have a connector for the ter part of my antenna, just the sat. The answer is really quite simple. Magic! The MyFi has an internal antenna that can pick up both sat and ter so the only thing you need external is a better sat antenna. I was getting the ground based repeaters all over Nashville this weekend which really excited me. Even in my hotel room I was able to enjoy perfect satelite radio without having to get an antenna out to the roof. The recording functions are pretty nice, you can start the playback then use the scroll wheel to switch between entries where the station id changed, song change, station ids, DJs talking, etc.
Okay so after I got there on Friday I had an hour or so to kill before Dementia arrived with stuff for the room party. While I waited I hung out in the room and played with the MyFi and talked on IRC for a bit.
Dementia arrived and we hauled in a ton of stuff then her friend Regan showed up from Chattanooga, conveniently right after all the work was done. I went back to the room for a bit so they could get ready, whatever it is that girls do that takes an hour before anyone can see them :P. We went downstairs after that and got our con badges then proceeded up to the 9th floor to catch the opening remarks, we were late and caught the crowd leaving.
But I met the man of the hour Daryll who was the responsible body for getting Hypericon running smoothly So we sat around for a while and waited on miss Anna to arrive from Atlanta so we could all eat. Dementia, Dolemite, Regan, Anna and myself all ventured out to Gerst Haus for dinner. If you haven't ever heard a polka version of Margaritaville, it's.... different heh. After dinner we all headed back to the hotel checked out one of the room parties and drank. Word of advice, party != celtic folk music. After much drinking Dementia and Regan were talked into doing a little belly dancing up on the 9th floor then we all crashed for the night.
Day two, Saturday and Monells! 9am about 10 of us met down in front of the hotel for our traditional Phreaknic Saturday morning gorging. Meat plate! After breakfast we came back and did a good bit of setup on the party room for Saturday night
. Around 2 or so I was feeling pretty run down so I excused myself to the hotel room to take a nap. Over the course of the next four hours I got about 45 min worth of sleep, I think. Even though I couldn't sleep I at least got to see / listen to most of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade which rocked. Anna came back to the room for a bit to get some party clothes and I got up to chat with her before going back to the party room to help finish up. Long story cut short cause I have been typing too much, Phreaknic party, Blood party and the Frolicon party all had enough booze to drop a moose. Lucky for us none showed up, but we did get alot of people drunk and having a good time.
Toward 1 or 2 things were winding down friends were watching out for other friends, the usual post party corral the drunks and make sure they don't do anything they would regret come sobriety. Finally fell asleep about 3:30 and slept til 5:30. Laid in bed for another hour tossing and turning trying to get comfortable to get back to sleep but it just wasn't happening so I got up and got ready to leave. Just about 7 I was ready to go all showered and packed so I said goodbye to Anna and went downstairs to checkout. Got all the paperwork done and the truck packed and pointed the truck toward home, just under 2 hours later I was rolling into the driveway and was determined to try and get some sleep. Crawled into bed and called Anna's cell to make sure she got up and was on her way to celebrate fathers day with her family back home. Laid in my bed for a couple of hours and gave up on sleeping, maybe tonight will be the night for sleep. So here I sit almost 8pm and that was the weekend. Just chock full of excitement. There was a little drama behind the scenes but nothing that really needs to be public, but what is new? Overall wasn't a bad weekend, but it had a few moments I wouldn't mind forgetting.
Last I can't forget to thank everyone that was trying to help I really do appreciate having good friends.
Just got home from Hypericon. It was a long weekend could have been a little better, could have been worse too though. Only got 2 hours sleep last night gonna try to crash for a bit before I download the pictures and write up what's on my mind.
On the way back from Prickageville the ranger rolled over to 200,000 miles. I took a little video of it rolling over and one picture of the odometer at 200,000. I will get a link to those here shortly, nothing else of any real excitement happened today. I expect to make an entry on this Sunday night when I get back from Hypericon.

Got my RMA number this afternoon when I got home from TN. The MyFi is going back. :( Even though I have the RMA number now I am going to wait til Sunday to send it back, so I have something to listen to in the truck this weekend. Oh well, just how it goes sometimes.
In other news had an idea this morning about what might be the cause of my sleeping problems. Did a quick google and found that insomnia is a very highly reported side effect from my allergy medicine. So I called the doctor's office to talk to him and got the machine, big surprise. Left a message with what I had read and what I thought might be my problem and haven't heard back from them. Since I know what will happen if I stop taking my meds I am gonna risk the ear ache and not take them for the rest of the week. By Saturday night I should have them completly out of my system and know if that is the cause or not.
On the way home today my XM in the truck died yet again. I was hoping that when I got home I would find its replacement on the porch. Got back from Sikeston, MO to find a box from UPS sitting in my chair. Opened it up and inside is my shiny new Delphi MyFi!
I ever so carefully destroyed the box and popped the battery in to my disappointment it wouldn't power on. :( A quick call to ziggy's tech support staff from http://www.myradiostore.us/ and they had me plug it into the wall and hit a ver small little reset button under the batter cover. With that the unit was charging and I was happy again. Called XM and had them do a radio swap from my old sony one to this and 15 minutes later it was already activated and good to go. Quickly went out to the truck and pulled out the old fm modulator, power supply and cradle. Put my console back together and tested out the new MyFi. I wasn't getting the signal level I thought I should but then I remembered I was under the carport. Duh huh. Backed the truck up and the signal level went to the place it should be and it was good.
I can't wait til Friday when I go down to nashville to see how well it does down there. I am not excited by the fact the MyFi doesn't have a connection for the Ter connector on my antenna since there are places in nashville where the satelite signal doesn't quick hit but the ground repeater picks up. Maybe XM found a way to make the ground repeaters broadcast in a way that I only need the Sat connector now. I will investigate! Guess it is time to fill out the form to get my free Roady 2 since I just got this.
I have been playing with this software for a couple of weeks now and have added in bits here and there. The other night I added in a couple of plugins to add in some icons to the different topics I use for the posts. Tonight I finally got around to making up some graphics for them. I also changed out the weather stuff to make it dynamic. The plugin I was using to display the weather only show the weather at the time I last made a change to the site. Now it should display the current weather conditions for Murray no matter when you load the page.
I guess it is about time to come to terms with I got screwed on this house deal. Talked to the lawyer last night and it looks like the home inspector is somehow clear of liability on the roof. The guys from the heating and air place looked at the A/C yesterday and told me the furnace part of it in the basement needs to be replaced. So I am going to call their office on Monday morning and get a copy of the inspection they did on it last year before I bought this place. At that time they said it was in perfect condition and didn't need to be replaced, how quickly their "professional" opinion has changed. I will talk to the lawyer once more on Monday about the roof and then probably call the insurance company and see if I can make a claim on it and get stuff moving. I've waited three or four months already on getting the roof fixed, since I found out there was a problem, I need to get it done before real damage happens.
Someone somewhere felt sorry for me last night and knocked out the power to the town of prickageville! About halfway there this morning got a call from my tech manager saying that my schedule had been changed the storm last night graced me with a power outage! As good news as that was my A/C is still out, Friggo is still utterly useless.
Bright shiney new toy on the way to replace my aging XM in the truck.http://www.xmradio.com/myfi/ It should be here on Tuesday!
Going to try to get the look of the blog part changed a little more here soon. I figured out how to get the plugins to work now just to find the ones to do the content I would like to add.
Had a really good time in Atlanta.
The picture on the left is my lovely chaeffeur from the weekend, and on the right is one of myself from that evening. Had a good time went out to dinner and geeked out with some friends. I wish they were closer so I could bug them more often. The drive back should have only taken about five and a half hours but I stopped over in Nashville for dinner with some other friends. Two and a half hours later I was back on my way. Got home about 11 Sunday night to find that my air conditioner was dead yet again.
As I sit here typing this my office is currently 82.3 degrees and I have had to shut some of my servers off because they were overheating. I have risked keeping my linux and novell servers going since I want my websites and email to keep flowing. The ftp server and both of my PVRs are currently off. Hopefully the heating and air guy will get here tomorrow and get this stuff fixed. I can't wait to hear the explaination for why this unit that was just fixed last month is dead again. And even more how a unit that is only two years old is dead. Finally I want to know why this thing has died TWICE when they checked it out last July before I bought this place and they said it was in perfect running order! Oh well sdodson happens.
Time for me to get in bed. Need to figure out some way to get a few nights where I sleep all night and get back in a good mood. Can't take another fight with the boss like I had today. Wish that guy would get a clue that I have stuck by his dumb ass this long I am not going anywhere anytime soon. Can't really say anyone else in the company has done that, but a few have come running back when he started waiving money around. I am really beginning to think half of my sleep problems have to do with work and the stress that is coming from Prickageville's TC. But that is another story.
Made it to Atlanta safe and sound. Took me just over 5 hours from Camden, TN. Didn't have too much trouble with the traffic just one wreck had things messy around Chattanooga. I really wish people would pay attention while they were driving. If you are driving in the left hand lane you are expected to be moving quicker than the traffic to your right. If you get passed by someone on your right, no make that a line of cars on your right, get over and let them by! On another note thank you dude driving the sporty new pickup truck from this morning. I'm glad he got you and not me. :)
Had just such a lovely day at work today. This client is really reaching the limit of my patience. I was asked to look at a computer he just installed to figure out why the contextless login wasn't working. I took one look and noticed he had installed the firewall portion of symantec system security. Despite the fact that I told him not to do it, he went ahead and did it because he knows better than I do. Well the firewall did what it was supposed to and blocked all the ldap communications between the workstation and the server and who knows what else. But the ldap communication was the cause of his current troubles so I disabled the firewall for him and showed him that the problems were gone. He was not happy with my answer, I don't care anymore.
Onto the good stuff. It's currently around 11:30pm and I am about to goto bed. Heading to Atlanta tomorrow to hang out with some of the se2600 crew it should be a good time. A nice relaxing weekend with friends should be just what I need to get rid of some of this stress. A very nice young lady asked me if I could accompany her to a cocktail party on Saturday night, so I went digging through the closet to see what kinds of dress clothes I still have. Managed to dig up two pairs of khaki pants, one nice white dress shirt that is a little tight, and two other nice button up shirts that are patterned. Found my dress shoes in the closet from where I moved everything here last summer. Hopefully what I have will please her otherwise I guess I will get her to take me someplace to get something better on saturday morning. :) But it should be a fun weekend.
I am going to take the camera with me but I never know if I will take it out and shoot. If I do I will post the pics to my gallery after I get back and will put a link here.
In other news, my sleep problem is still ongoing. Woke up twice last night that I can remember and had some really strange dream. I was sitting in my office and an old friend named Lurch and his g/f Kelly were here in my house. Dawn was upstairs and told him that I was asleep in my office but he didn't believe her and started yelling for me. Shortly after he started wandering through the house yelling and Kelly was on his tail telling him to be quiet I woke up. Not sure what that was all about. I haven't really spoken to him but maybe once since I bought this house and I don't recall mentioning it or where it was to him. Weird as that was I still think all my problems with not being able to sleep through the night are stress related. Maybe after this weekend I will get a few solid nights and get back to normal. Well as normal as I get anyhow. HA!
